Regions in Greece

Rhodes island, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year, is officially the sunniest place in Europe. Rhodes has a population of approximately 90.000. Among the locals you will find people from all parts of Greece, people of various nationalities, and numerous students of Rhodes University who have chosen the island to be their home. Each of them, with different culture and traditions, add to the special and cosmopolitan atmosphere of Rhodes.

The cosmopolitan character of Rhodes is also well reflected in its shopping. You will find virtually anything, from boutiques selling internationally renowned designer labels such as Armani and Escada, to retailers such as Marks & Spencer and BHS. Lounge bars, lively nightclubs, discos and cafes featuring world music coexist with Greek hot spots offering live bouzouki music. There is even a luxurious casino in Rhodes town.

According to statistics, Rhodes is one of the safest places to live and enjoy a quality life, with a crime rate of practically zero.

Transport and Healthcare

The International airport of Rhodes, Diagoras, is 16 kilometres south-west of Rhodes City. There are 16 daily connection flights to Athens, and many more to other national destinations. Rhodes is a major port with sea links not only to Athens, Crete, and the islands of the Aegean, but also to Cyprus, Turkey, and Israel. It also hosts a considerable number of yachts during the summer months, and a new yacht marina is presently under construction.

There is a brand new hospital in Rhodes town, complete with the latest medical equipment and qualified staff, along with numerous clinics and health centres in direct proximity to every municipality of the island.

Sights and Activities

Rhodes is an island with many variations in landscape, where one can still find untouched sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The natural contrasts from wild rocky scenery to lush valleys make the island truly special, an inspiration for classic and modern artists alike.

There are many unique landmarks in Rhodes. The historic Medieval Old Town, wonderfully intact, has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The traditional village of Lindos, on the south-eastern coast, is one of the most famous and picturesque locations in Greece. For nature lovers, the eco-park of the Valley of the Butterflies attracts thousands of butterflies; the Seven Springs are seven trickling streams that flow into the calm waters of a lake.

Sports enthusiasts will not be disappointed. A variety of exercise and health clubs are to be found in Rhodes, along with an 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course, equestrian and tennis clubs, squash, football and basketball courts, paragliding, jet-skiing, bowling and, for the more adventurous, even scuba diving and flight schools.
